Seamless is a construction, stated on the order

Casing reaches a well by two manufacturing routes: seamless, pierced and rolled from a solid billet, or welded, formed from strip and joined along a longitudinal seam. API 5CT recognises both routes under their process designations, and wells are designed with a route in mind — the specification names the route for each section, and where it names seamless, a welded product is not a substitute at any price. Construction is an order field: state it on the RFQ line for each section, and ask for the construction to be confirmed on the casing line itself in the quotation.

The company's position is documented in its own product ecosystem: seamless steel pipe appears in the platform catalogue's main products list alongside casing and tubing, and the casing product pages describe hot-rolled production for the casing line. The published lists are stated separately: the size list names fourteen sizes from 4-1/2 in to 20 in, and the grade list names J55, K55, N80-1, N80Q, L80-1 and P110, with the chromium series named separately; the two lists are not documented against each other. Ask for the size and grade combination on your line to be confirmed in the written quotation. State seamless in the first line of the RFQ, not as a closing remark; it changes the sourcing route the quotation is built on.

What a seamless specification states, section by section

• The load case — where a section's collapse and burst case rests on wall uniformity as a design assumption, the specification states seamless as that section's construction.
• Corrosion-named sections — where the design names a corrosion-resistant material, including 13Cr programmes, the construction is stated in the same line as the grade, so no weld seam enters the chosen material unstated.
• Tenders that name the process — where a tender names seamless for a casing line, state the named construction in the enquiry, so the quotation can confirm the construction for that line before production.
• Premium connection sections — where a section is premium-threaded, the construction is stated on the same line as the premium pattern it carries.

None of this makes welded casing a defective product — it makes construction a specification, like grade or thread. State the construction on the RFQ line for each section; the inspection documents to be provided with the order are confirmed in the quotation for the order.

Specifying seamless casing

Write the RFQ line in full: seamless casing pipe, size, weight or wall, grade and variant, thread and coupling, length range, quantity, PSL or documentation requirements, destination. If the order mixes seamless sections with other construction, keep the sections as separate lines with construction named on each.

Is seamless available in every casing size?

Ask for each size on your line to be confirmed in the quotation against the published 4-1/2 in to 20 in size list.

Does seamless cost more?

This site publishes no construction price comparison. A seamless line is priced from its own specification — size, weight, grade, thread, range and quantity — in the written quotation, and programmes state seamless section by section where the design requires it.

How is seamless verified at delivery?

Name in the enquiry the documents or third-party inspection your receiving procedure needs for this check, so the quotation can confirm that scope for the order.
